SKILLS, Inc. is a non-profit organization in Maine that helps adults with intellectual disabilities and other challenges to achieve their goals through employment, residential, and supportive services, and through educating the public to eliminate barriers.
SKILLS, Inc. provides a number of community support service programs in the Pittsfield, Skowhegan and Waterville areas. These programs are open 7AM to 3PM, Monday through Friday. Transportation can often be arranged, primarily through the Kennebec Valley Community Action Program (KVCAP). Community support sites include:
SKILLS, Inc. provides personalized living arrangements for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Homes located in rural and urban communities across Central Maine are designed to encourage maximum independence while utilizing support from professionally trained staff. We offer community activities and social events as well as opportunities to attend community support services, senior services, and work programs. Transportation is provided for all programs and activities.
Waiver Homes are tailored specifically to meet the unique needs of the individuals living in them. One or two individuals live in each home and have the option of individualized activities provided in their home during the day. Staff support is arranged based on individual needs.
PNMIs (Private Non-Medical Institutes) are licensed boarding homes that provide supports to both men and women. Homes range in size from six to 14 individuals. Individuals either have their own bedroom or share with one other person. All share bathrooms, kitchen, dining room and living room. Twenty-four hour staffing is provided at these homes.
